Its author, Swiss-born Eduard Albert “Billy” Meier was renowned for his numerous books, and claimed, with supporting images, to show evidence of contact with inhabitants of other planets. More than just a poster, Meier’s photograph belongs to a little-known category of such, taken during UFO sightings, which ufologists have used to conduct research since the late 1940s. The exhibition We are not alone is structured in three chapters. The first, “Forms,” focuses on the physical appearance of the observed phenomena. The second takes the perspective of witnesses to “close encounters” and the third examines the cults and beliefs that such experiences can stimulate within spiritual communities. Through a rich selection of archival documents and contemporary works, the exhibition explores the visual imaginary of extraterrestrial worlds, where fiction and reality, science and belief intertwine at will.
